IFG Iraq – University Foundation Programmes
(In partnership with Almasar Alarabi)
Foundation Programme in Computer Science
This foundation pathway is for students wishing to progress on to undergraduate degree courses in a wide range of computer related subjects including Computer Science, Business Information Technology, Computer Systems & Networking & Computer Security.
There is a strong emphasis on developing learning skills and approaches in preparation for higher education study in the UK in order that students who graduate from our programme are well equipped with the skills and attributes required for degree level study.
Overview
In the first term, there is a focus on improving academic, mathematical and language skills as well as introductory modules to computer systems and programming. In the second and third terms of the course, you will continue to develop your academic and language skills, but the main focus is on the three depth modules of computing, further mathematics and business studies.
The computer science module covers a wide range of topics including programming, databases, networks and web development. The course is practically based with a strong emphasis on applying learning to real life situations in different fields. Students also have the opportunity to complete a project which allows for more in-depth study of a chosen topic and helps to develop research and analytical skills which are so important in order to succeed at a higher academic level.
Further Mathematics and Mechanics is an essential topic for students wishing to apply for computer-related degree courses and this module provides a sure foundation for later studies in these fields.
The Physics component of this programme is divided into Core Physics, Further Physics 1 and Further Physics 2. The aim of these modules is to develop knowledge and understanding as well as an appreciation of the applications of physics and their importance to different fields of human activity. In the Further Physics modules, there is also an emphasis on the development of skills in designing and executing experiments.
The course is taught by tutors with a passion for their subject and have, in many cases, practical experience in different business and computing industries. It will give you a thorough preparation for your degree level studies and also an insight into the career options available after you have graduated.
